Welcome Coach Jamahl Mosely to the Orlando Magic!

The Orlando Magic have now officially hired Jamahl Mosely as the team’s new head coach, the 15th in the team’s history. Mosley will replace Steve Clifford, who mutually parted ways with the club at the start of June. The deal is believed to be a 4 year contract (likely a team option for the final year).

Mosely has a great reputation in the NBA as a “player’s coach”. He is known for building strong relationships with young players as he develops them. Luka Doncic has been publicly highly complementary of him.

The Magic have two first round lottery picks later this July (5th & 8th). The hiring of Mosely will allow him an opportunity to have a say in the selection process. Orlando have a squad bursting with young talent including Cole Anthony, Chuma Okeke, RJ Hampton, Mo Bamba and Wendell Carter Jr. Add in the anticipated returns of Markelle Fultz and Jonathan Isaac. Each of those players is aged 23 or under.

The 42 year old had been with the Mavericks for the past seven seasons. Most recently he was the associate head coach under Rick Carlisle at Dallas, responsible for the team’s defensive strategy.

Mosley was an assistant in Denver (2005-2010) where he crossed paths with Jeff Weltman who was the Nuggets assistant general manager at the team. Mosely then moved to Cleveland (2010-2014) as an assistant coach.

Remember as Coach Jamahl Mosely chooses his assistants and back up staff there is a potential for Orlando Magic Hall of Farmer and Heart & Hustle legend Darrell Armstrong to return to Orlando. Armstrong has been a part of the Dallas coaching staff with Mosely under Rick Carlisle.

Hopefully there are exciting times for us Magic fans as the new era gets underway. In the last episode of our podcast Penny For Your Thoughts we discussed the then possible hiring of Coach Mosely
