  • It was a game of two halves for Orlando who held a 13 point lead at the half.
  • A sensational first half saw the Magic lead by as many as 15 points, shooting 59% from the field.
  • A rough second half for Orlando saw them go cold on offence (particularly from range), scoring just 36 points. They fouled and turned the ball over repeatedly.

The Atlanta Hawks

Looking Back

  • Last season saw the Hawks go .500 at a 41-41 record, finishing 8th in the East. After defeating Miami in the 7-8 play-in game, the Hawks lost 2-4 in the first round to the Boston Celtics.
  • The Hawks under coach Quin Snyder (who was hired mid-season) are in some way running it back (outside of John Collins). Key additions made are veterans Patty Mills, Wesley Matthews and from the Draft rookie guard Kobe Bufkin.

Season Stats

  • Season Record: 4-3 Run: lost 1
  • Standing: tied 5th (tied 5th-6th with the Orlando Magic) in the East
  • Points Per Game: For – 122 (2nd) Against – 116.7 (23rd)
  • Rating: Offensive 2nd Defensive 20th
  • Some mixed results saw the Hawks lose their opening two games, before going on a run of 4 straight wins. This winning streak included beating the Bucks in Milwaukee.
  • Offensively this is a team that take the league’s second most free throws and make the most pr game. If they miss a shot then the Hawks grab almost 14 offensive rebounds a game (3rd most). Finally, the ball movement of the team results in the NBA’s 5th most assists.
  • Defensively their highlight statistic is being the team with least personal fouls so far. They also have active hands that results in interceptions and steals.

Last Time Out For The Hawks

  • Atlanta tasted defeat on the road to the Thunder in Oklahoma in their last game by 117-126.
  • Going into the final quarter the Hawks were trailing by 19, before cutting the deficit to 5 points with two minutes remaining. That was as close as they would get though.
  • A 9 player rotation saw 5 score in double digits. Dejounte Murray led the team with 29 points. Trae Young chipped in with a double-double of 22 points and 11 assists. Jalen Johnson also dropped a 13 points and 12 rebound double-double.
  • The bench saw Bogdan Bogdanovich score 17 points, followed by Saddiq Bey with 15.
  • The starting 5 was Trae Young, Dejounte Murray, De’Andre Hunter, Jalen Johnson, Clint Capella

  • Their injury report has both Kobe Bufkin and Wesley Matthews out. Mouhamed Gueye(mo-HAH-med gay) is questionable with a back injury.
  • The only change in the starting unit this season has been between Jalen Johnson and Saddiq Bey splitting the duty. Therefore expect Trae Young, Dejounte Murray, De’Andre Hunter and Clint Capella to be joined by one or the other.

Head-To-Head With The Hawks

  • In 131 regular season games played the score stands at 62-69 to Atlanta.
  • Over the last two seasons the series has been taken 3-1, by the Atlanta Hawks.
  • The Magic have only won 2 of the last 11 encounters.
  • The last time Orlando won a series was season 2018-19 (taking it 4-0).

As The Magic Are In Mexico To Play The Hawks A Final Thought

  • Tonight is against a team that are playing superb attacking basketball. Defensively they have been having some difficulty. Of their regular 9 player rotation 8 are scoring 11 points or more per game.
  • Orlando will have to find some way of slowing the Trae Young and Dejounte Murray partnership. At this point they are combining each game for an average of 44 points and almost 17 assists.
  • Atlanta are a team who can score quickly.
  • Defence will certainly be the key to this game again for Orlando. Unlike both the game against the Clippers and last time out against Dallas the Magic must maintain their focus and energy across the entire game, not just the opening half. Any slip in intensity will present this scoring Hawks team opportunities to put the game beyond Orlando.
