Last night it became official, Paolo Banchero is an NBA All-Star as he was named amongst the Eastern Conference’s team reserves.

The NBA All-Star reserves are selected by the league’s head coaches.

Paolo Banchero Is An NBA All-Star – Voting Results

The starting lineups for each conference are selected by a vote. The public vote counts for 50% of the weighted score, media and player voting at 25% each. Banchero dramatically moved up the fan vote to finish in 6th. That statistic is quite impressive when you consider he is yet to have a single game broadcast on any of the major US networks (ESPN, TNT, ABC).

Coming 4th in the player vote for the East shows exactly what regard his peers hold him in.

The voting did see Paolo miss out on a start but it is impossible to argue with the selections ahead of him. Therefore, it was down to the NBA coaching selection process for Paolo to get his first All-Star game.

This marks the first time that Banchero has been named an NBA All-Star, but he is not the first for the Magic.

As A Rookie

His incredible rookie season was full of numbers only attained by some of the games greatest players in their first season.

  • Banchero finished with 40 games of 20-plus point, the same number LeBron James had during his NBA rookie campaign with the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2003-04.
  • He also became the second teenager in NBA history to put up at least 30 points and 15 rebounds in a game, joining LeBron James.
  • Banchero is just the sixth rookie in the last 50 seasons to average at least 20 points, six rebounds and three assists per game across a minimum of 50 games.
  • Banchero was named the Kia NBA’s Eastern Conference Rookie of the Month four consecutive. The accolade is awarded 5 times during the season. From December 2022 through March/April 2023 Paolo took the award. He joins Shaquille O’Neal (1992-93) as the only players in franchise history to win the honour four straight times.

At the season close he was further named into the NBA All Rookie First Team.
